Florida UAA makes hiring of Jon Sumrall official
just now (333+ words) The University of Florida Athletic Association hired Jon Sumrall as the 31st head coach of the Gators on Sunday. Shortly after reports came in on Sumrall agreeing to terms with Florida, the UAA and athletic director Scott Stricklin made things official. "Jon Sumrall is a proven winner and an exceptional leader who has built successful programs at every stop," Stricklin said. "He brings tremendous energy, strong recruiting relationships across our footprint, and a philosophy rooted in toughness, discipline and player development. "He will cultivate a daily culture of competitiveness, accountability and winning that drives success on the field and throughout our program." Stricklin added that Sumrall understands the lofty expectations everyone involved with the program has, specifically noting a dynamic offense " a major criticism of previous head coach Billy Napier. Why wasn’t Ryan Williams targeted in Iron Bowl? ‘Nothing to read into’
4+ min ago (288+ words) Alabama star receiver Ryan Williams didn't make his way onto the stat sheet in the win over Auburn, but he still played a fair amount. Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said "there's really nothing to read into there at all" regarding Williams' usage in the Iron Bowl. Williams was fourth among Alabama receivers with 38 snaps, per Pro Football Focus. Ahead of him were Germie Bernard (70), Isaiah Horton (53) and Lotzeir Brooks (39). Williams was targeted zero times whereas Bernard received eight targets, Horton received five, Brooks and running back Jam Miller received three and several other players had one or two a piece. "We want to continue to be intentional," DeBoer said. "Ryan does a great job for us each and every week preparing. It was no different this week." Williams, a Saraland native, is second on the team with 40 receptions and 598 receiving…...
Browns DT Shelby Harris calls out 49ers' Jauan Jennings after loss to San Francisco: 'I see why he got punched in the nuts"
8+ min ago (227+ words) For the second week in a row, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings was on the scene of a heated interaction. Last week, Jennings smacked Carolina Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig after the safety punched Jennings below the belt. And on Sunday, things got spicy again, as Jennings exchanged words with the Cleveland Browns' defense during Cleveland's 26-8 loss to San Francisco. The exchange happened as Browns defensive lineman Maliek Collins went down and was later carted off with a leg injury. Cleveland defensive tackle Shelby Harris spoke on the interaction postgame, declining to get into details but implying that Jennings got personal, and took things too far. Moehrig was later suspended one game for the low blow on Jennings. Jennings, who hit Moehrig twice in that altercation, was later fined $12,172 by the league for unnecessary roughness (striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing). Harris…...
Alabama's DeBoer on why Ryan Williams wasn't thrown to in Iron Bowl
9+ min ago (218+ words) Alabama football WR Ryan Williams played 38 snaps for the Crimson Tide against archrival Auburn on Saturday, but in a 27-20 Crimson Tide victory, the sophomore wasn't targeted even once in the passing game. For a player who has recorded some big performances in some big games over two years at Alabama, that's surprising, despite his lack of consistency as a sophomore this season. But UA coach Kalen DeBoer said Williams' lack of production in the Iron Bowl was incidental to his role. MAKING THIER CASE: Why Alabama football feels it deserves College Football Playoff spot GOODBREAD: Alabama football can't trust committee, Georgia is a must-win "We've got to be intentional because he's a playmaker for us. The ball just found some other guys and they made plays, like you saw with Isaiah Horton." Williams had a spectacular freshman season in 2024 for…...

Yankees Could Upend Baseball With This Blockbuster Trade
16+ min ago (607+ words) The New York Yankees definitely need to make some changes this offseason, particularly after watching the Toronto Blue Jays win the AL East, beat them in the ALDS and then come within two outs of winning a World Series. The Yankees are still good as currently constructed, but it's pretty clear that this team needs a little bit more, and it would certainly behoove them to add another big bat. While Kyle Tucker has been the hottest name, it's looking more and more like New York is prioritizing Cody Bellinger in free agency, which means Tucker won't be coming to the Bronx. That means the Yankees could have to turn their attention to a trade, and perhaps the most obvious answer in that category is Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte. The Diamondbacks are fielding offers on Marte, and the Bronx…...

Lane Kiffin boards the jet to LSU with obscenities and anger from Ole Miss fans
22+ min ago (232+ words) Lane Kiffin's exit from Ole Miss turned ugly Sunday, as the coach boarded a private jet bound for LSU amid a furious airport crowd of Rebels fans who hurled obscenities, boos and crude gestures in his direction. A video circulating on social media showed Kiffin walking from a car toward the plane before takeoff. The scene was chaotic. Fans chanted profanities, waved middle fingers and held up phones as they booed Kiffin relentlessly. This will be Kiffin's lasting memory of a place he called home for the past six years. One final image of backlash for a coach who once revived postseason hope in Oxford. Now he heads to Baton Rouge to rebuild a program that slumped under Brian Kelly. Former Rebels offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. reportedly accompanied Kiffin to LSU. He tried to pull staff and players with…...
